Bird Encounters
I have great respect and appreciation for all birds though and always try to befriend them even if they can at times be less than friendly back. I've kept chickens, I'm looking forward to one day keeping ducks, I know they play a vital role in ecology and most of all for permaculture gardening, they are one of the most versatile elements.
The way they move nutrient and seeds through the environment, the way they help reduce the number of pests, they mastering of the air and be elegance of their diverse designs. They're quite captivating. In the city I'd often take them for granted but in the wild it's different, for some reason each one gets a fair amount of my attention and adoration as it crosses my visual field.
It's quite a treat to know you've provided a nice place for a drink of water, a healthy snack, or a place to rest or hunt from. Making homes for things is one of my favorite definitions of permaculture and I intend to make homes and playgrounds and parks for as many forms of wild life as I can. I never get lonely with so many bird friends visiting so often. I don't try to project my emotions on them, but sometimes it does feel like they make an effort to acknowledge me. Hopefully they're as grateful for me as I am for them.
