Bucket Garden Systems
My team and I once applied for a received an urban sustainable art project grant to design and build bucket gardens. We'd take regular 5 gallon buckets, drill drainage holes in the bottom, then drill approximately one inch diameter holes with a hole saw drill bit all around the sides of bucket. This made it possible to grow a couple or a few main deeper rooting crops in the center of the filled bucket, as well as plant things like leeks, green onions, mint, and other herbs into the sides of the bucket through the holes. This exemplified the permaculture practices of staking functions, obtaining multiple yields from a single system element, and just generally increasing beneficial relations and enhancing productivity.
