Corn Beans and Squash Garden

Corn Beans and Squash Garden

This section contains photos from various project sites throughout the Desert South West Coastal Mountain region where there are eco-niches with rich soil, wildlife, and marine fog and rain that make for ideal year-round growing conditions. This is a plant guild found in indigenous horticultural traditions of the Americas. It's a combination of corns, beans, and squash. Each of these plants support each other and often referred to as "three sisters" gardens. The beans add nitrogen to the soil, the corn provides a trellis for the the beans to climb, and the squash leaves shade the soil.
