Winter Frost on Solar Panels, a Reminder to Live on a Real-Time Solar Budget
Seeing frost in the morning on my solar panels is both a treat in that I'm able to see new geometric patterns made on the unique surface, and it is also an important reminder that my solar energy capture is seasonally limited. I've learned to embrace this limitation as it makes me feel more attuned to the cycles of nature. Many forms of life hibernate or go dormant in the winter and I've felt for a long time that I'd like to break the habit of cheating the seasons by being excessively buffered by climate control. The same is true for artificial lighting past sunset.
I'm learning more and more everyday that the modern world's demands on workforce production are unsustainable, and bordering on torturous. From the acute negative physical and mental health effects, to the cumulative, I've had enough. To surrender the ratcheted-up work ethic for more humility in the face of harsh natural elements is a beautiful thing. I'm thankful for this reminder to stay humble, stay in balance, live by the sun and moon, day and night, warmth and cold, wind and rain. Sometimes a good days work is just simply surviving and staying healthy.
