Do it Yourself Fruit Tree Picker Tool

I was able to adapt a small gardening hand tool, kind of like a claw or angled fork, to use as a fruit tree picker by attaching a wood pole. I then took a coat-hanger and sewed a pocket of fabric to it, then attached it to the pole below the garden claw. This effectively allowed the user to reach up higher above their heads, pluck off the fruit with the claw, and catch it in the fabric basket. Worked like a charm, just as good as a purpose built tool, but at basically zero cost.
