Front Yard Rainwater Garden Swale

Earthworks can be done at almost any scale. Here, a small swale, or level ditch that follows the contour of the landscape, is used to disperse rainwater coming from the roof and gutter system. This is often called a rain garden. Here it's planted with a diverse array of drought tolerant ornamental species that can do well with or without the extra moisture from rainfall.
