Harvesting Amaranth From Above Ground Pool Chinampa Island Water Garden
I've been growing amaranth at almost every site I've worked on for over 10 years. It has been a staple source of leafy greens and nutrient dense seeds. It's very independent and once a seasons plantings are established, they often re-seed themselves in a very prolific way.
Here I'm harvesting one of the tallest plants I've yet grown. It was the only one out of many that I planted around the outer perimeter of this 16 foot diameter above ground pool chinampa island water garden pond. I was very grateful it got established because it's yield at harvest filled a whole bucket. I simply clipped the tree-like branches off and cut them down to size to fit in a 5-gallon bucket.
I harvested the greens and the seeds were put in small packets and shipped out as gift items included with my final vinyl 12" record album release.
