Damp Fabric And Spray Bottle 01
Lessons from Meerkats About Desert Heat Mitigation By Laying on Damp Surfaces
I learned the value of laying on damp materials from a documentary made about the charming mammals called Meerkats. They live underground in some of the hottest deserts in the world. In one segment it showed them taking advantage of pockets of coolness after a rain. One of them was laying out on a damp area of soil that had not fully evaporated yet. I'd already been in the desert one summer without thinking of a such a genius idea, forever after seeing this, I've budgeted extra water to dampen the linens I lay on both day and night to help cool my body temperature and make the heat more bearable.
I cheap plastic spray bottle using filtered water to inhibit microbial growth of stagnant warm water has worked very well. Though when these plastic spray bottles wear out, I won't be replacing them. I've decided that I can simply dip cloth into water wrap myself or dab myself with the clothes. One less plastic part to be morally responsible for. But for now, I'll use the spray bottles until the bitter end of their lives.
