Micro Hugelkultur

This is an example of hugelkultur, or wood core mound gardens, at a micro scale. According to some experts the ideal and traditional scale is several feet high, though I've had success at a variety of scales. The basic principles hold up in my experience, moisture and nutrients are retained by the decaying wood that acts like a sponge in the center of a mound of soil.
