Paleo Garlic Bread Raw Dry Mix of Fresh Ground Flax Seed Nutritional Yeast Flakes And Garlic Powder
Living without any form of on-site cooking has made me get very creative about meal planning and preparation. So much of culinary artistry is texture. I'm not trying to be devout raw foodist, it just so happens that my particular circumstance results in a lot of raw food prep. The raw food movement has done a lot to replicate the taste and texture of cooked foods. I've found that blenders, food processors, and grinders are powerful tools towards this end. Now that I'm on an electric power budget with a small scale off-grid solar panel and battery array, I've found it to be positive pressure to rely more on hand tools. So my coffee grinder use has been minimized in trade for my hand-crank grain grinder. I've gotten to the point where now hand ground flax seed meal is a stable, the hard part has been to stylize the meal product. I've had success with mixing it with dried fruit, or just a pinch of salt. A recent experiment has been to mix it with nutritional yeast and a bit of garlic powder. I was instantly surprised at how closely the flavor and texture resembled a fine garlic bread. It's not the same experience, however it's a gratifying approximation and has become a new tradition for me.
I usually grow a lot of garlic but in the desert it's been more difficult to establish. I continue to evolve my tactics and hope to have a year round home-grown supply soon enough. For now, the bulk garlic powder I purchased will help give me the constant friendly reminder not to give up on growing garlic so I can become garlic self-sufficient sooner rather than later.
