Plantable Produce

I've had great luck with establishing all kinds of plantable produce. There are so many items in the grocery store fresh produce section that are still living with intact viable root systems. They're just ready to be chopped up and planted. You can make a meal with the edible parts, and plant the roots. Or separate part of a bag of root crops, eat some and plant the rest. It's one of my favorite traditions. Every garden I establish will have lots of these. They're quite affordable compared to the cost of buying established plants from a nursery. While you could start them from seed, you really need a professional nursery operation to do it right and reliably. So it's great to score plantable produce from the grocery store. This is great too for produce that is overripe, for sale at a discount, on clearance, etc. then it's even cheaper.
