Pre Filling Tree Planting Hole with Water for Better Saturation
I was taught to religiously fill the holes to be planted in with water several times to ensure that all the surrounding native soil was fully saturated before planting. This makes so much sense and I never want to neglect this process if I can help it. It seems intuitively to make sense to just plant something, and water in well. However if the soil is dry, it will sponge most of it and leave little for the plant to consume. But by pre-filling, not just once, but twice or more depending on the soil type, this guarantees that watering in after planting will be as effective as possible.
