Rock Perimeter for Plant Watering Basin
This simple techniques helps hold the shape of the bowl-like basins we make when planting trees, shrubs, etc. When the edge of the basin is made only of the soil, it can easily blow out when filled with water. By adding a circle of rocks, the walls is better retained, it also helps to give a visual aid so people know to avoid stepping near the plant or tree, and also helps to aim the hose when watering. Though as I've been taught, once the tree is well established, you water at the drip line, not near the trunk. So best to extend the rock circle and basin as the tree grows.
