Stirring Seed Mix in Pan of Soaking Water Before Planting into Soil of Food Forest Garden
When I know the time of season is hospitable to all of the seeds in mix, I'll often pre-soak the seeds just like I would for edible sprouting. Giving them several hours totally submerged helps them feel certain that enough rain must have fallen that it would be safe to start sprouting. By just sewing them dry and hoping that the soil stays evenly and consistent moist to their liking may not result in high germination rates. There are times when this is preferable though because if some of the seeds may not typically do well at this time of year, by sewing them dry, you give them the discretion to sprout if they sense they are ready to. Whereas by pre-soaking them, they're germination becomes less optional.
