The Way Of The Intercepting Mitts

The Way Of The Intercepting Mitts

In the absence of an abundance of sparring partners, at the peak of my solo Jeek Kune Do training I adapted many different innovative training tools and methods to simulate combat. Here I attached a pulley and rope above a punching bag with a set of focus mitt strike training pads at each end of the rope. This system gave me the ability to simulate trapping, grappling, parrying, blocking while striking and kicking, dodging, evading, and much more. It was almost effortless to create a flurry of moves that would keep the focus mitts flying around the punching bag. Thus I was able to navigate the storm of their chaotic movements to target them with strikes, to block or parry them away, and maintain central focus on the punching bag strikes while measuring responses to the always in motion mitts in the periphery of my visual field. It was quite a cardio workout and really helped develop dynamic reflexes.
