Urban Permaculture Food Forest Garden Harvests
These are some of my most cherished moments, harvesting from the garden the fruits and vegetables of so much care and labor. As any avid gardener knows, you often end up with more than you can possibly consume and therefore you become a better friend and neighbor as you share the bounty season after season. After harvests, even more fun awaits as you develop diverse creative strategies to store food from canning to fermenting to dehydrating and more. For many of us who aren't yet fully independent from the global food supply chain, it's almost a kind of simulation to grow some portion of our own food. For those of us who are truly subsistence farmers and gardeners, the season's harvest and how well it's preserved can mean life or death over a winter, or dry hot summer. The more independent you are on industrial agriculture, the more dependent you are on skillfully navigating the patterns of nature.
